What to Expect on the Day of Microtia & Ear Reconstruction Surgery
The details of surgery vary depending on the reconstructive technique used and whether your procedure is the first stage or a later phase of treatment. Before surgery begins, your treatment plan will be reviewed, and any remaining questions answered.
During surgery, Dr. Chou will carefully rebuild the structures of the ear. If rib cartilage was discussed, he will also make an incision in the chest to obtain additional cartilage to rebuild the ear.
Following reconstruction, protective dressings are placed around the ear to support healing and help preserve its newly created shape. You will receive detailed instructions covering incision care, activity restrictions, sleeping positions, and follow-up appointments before returning home.
