Elevate Your Natural Expression

As you get older, your brows may slowly lower, which can make your upper face look tired and heavy.

A brow lift will raise your brows to give you a more youthful look and smooth out wrinkles and creases on your forehead. At Redwood Facial Plastic Surgery in Berkeley, Dr. David Chou offers brow lifts to help his patients look and feel more refreshed.

What is a Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery raises your eyebrows and can even smooth out some wrinkles in your upper face. It helps with drooping brows, forehead lines, and frown lines that can make you look tired or serious.

During surgery, Dr. Chou repositions the tissues responsible for brow position and upper facial expression. Depending on your hairline and forehead anatomy, you may be a good candidate for a minimally invasive endoscopic browlift or other brow lift and temporal lift techniques. When your brows are lifted to a more youthful position, your face looks more balanced, and your eyes appear more open.

Combining My Brow Lift with Other Procedures

Many of Dr. Chou’s patients choose to combine their brow lift with other facial procedures to achieve full facial rejuvenation.

Upper eyelid surgery removes extra skin and tissue from your upper eyelids. Since drooping brows and heavy eyelids often happen together, doing both procedures can refresh your upper face and give you a more rested appearance.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Brow Lift?

A brow lift might be a good choice if you are bothered by drooping brows, forehead wrinkles, or an older look in your upper face. It is often a good fit for:

  • Men and women with low or drooping eyebrows
  • Individuals with prominent forehead creases
  • Patients with deep lines between the brows
  • Those who appear tired, angry, or concerned even when relaxed
  • Healthy adults who don’t smoke or are willing to stop smoking
  • Patients seeking long-lasting enhancement rather than temporary treatments

The best way to find out if a brow lift is right for you is to meet with Dr. Chou for a consultation.

  • Discuss your concerns and desired outcome
  • Undergo a comprehensive facial evaluation
  • Review all your medical history and any current medications
  • Learn about the different brow lift techniques available to you
  • Receive your customized treatment plan
  • Review recovery expectations and postoperative care
  • Talk about procedural costs and financing options, if applicable

What to Expect on the Day of Brow Lift Surgery

For your brow lift surgery, you will come to the surgical center. Dr. Chou and his team will go over your treatment plan with you and answer any last questions you have.

Once you are given general anesthesia or IV sedation, small incisions will be made behind your hairline for a minimally invasive approach. If you are also having hairline advancement or another approach, the incisions may be hidden elsewhere around the forehead as discussed before surgery. Dr. Chou will then adjust the underlying tissues, remove excess skin if needed, and lift your brows to a more youthful position.

After surgery, you will spend some time in recovery before being released to go home. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you during the first part of your recovery.

Brow Lift Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Brow Lift Care

Recovery after a brow lift varies from person to person, but most will experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort for the first few days after surgery. Dr. Chou does not commonly use drains for his browlift surgeries, making for a more comfortable and less complicated recovery for his patients.

You will need to keep your head up and avoid heavy activity while you heal. You will also be asked to wear a compressive dressing around your forehead for the first week to help reduce swelling and lower the risk of complications.

Most swelling and bruising will improve within 1 to 2 weeks. Most of Dr. Chou’s clients also feel ready to return to work in about 10 to 14 days after surgery.

You may notice improvements soon after surgery, but your final results will start to show as swelling goes down.
