What are Facial Implants?

Facial implants are personalized, biocompatible materials surgically placed to enhance, restore, or augment facial structure, creating a more balanced profile. They are highly customizable and made of safe, medical-grade substances, such as silicone and porous polyethylene. When chosen and placed well, they fit naturally into the native facial contours, providing a seamless transition between facial features.

Cheek implants are placed on the cheekbones to add volume to flat or sunken cheeks, restore youthful contours, and enhance symmetry. They are best for patients who want a subtle, predictable augmentation of the mid-face, creating a fuller appearance without looking overdone.

What to Expect on the Day of Facial Implant Surgery

On the day of your facial implant surgery, you’ll arrive at an affiliated, accredited surgery center and review your treatment plan to ensure you and Dr. Chou are on the same page.

You’ll most commonly be given general anesthesia or sedation, depending on the extent of your surgery and the incision location. This will have been discussed during your consultation and included in your treatment plan.

If you get a chin implant, Dr. Chou will make a small incision under your chin to open a pocket for the implant. He will place the implant over your chin bone to enhance your chin shape and create a separation from your neck, then carefully close the incision with sutures.

If you get cheek implants, Dr. Chou will make concealed incisions inside your mouth hidden above the gumline and create small pockets for the implants. He’ll carefully place the implants over the cheekbones and close the incisions with dissolving sutures.

Surgical bandages may be wrapped around your face to reduce swelling and support the face while you heal.

You will wake up in a recovery room and be given time to adjust before leaving with post-operative care instructions. A friend or family member must pick you up.

Combining My Facial Implants with Other Procedures

Many of our Berkeley patients get chin and/or cheek implants to achieve their desired facial proportions. Additionally, patients may opt to combine other procedures to enhance their facial profile further and restore youthfulness.

Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty, or nose job, alters the shape and size of the nose to improve aesthetic preferences or correct breathing issues. Patients work with Dr. Chou to choose their desired nose appearance, creating subtle changes such as removing humps, refining the tip, or narrowing the nostrils to improve facial harmony.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty changes the shape, position, or size of the ears. This includes ears that are misshapen from birth, deformed by injury, or disproportionately projecting from the side of the head relative to the rest of the face. The procedure helps create balance throughout the face, providing harmony and symmetry.

Facial Implants Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Facial Implants Care

You’ll experience some mild to moderate swelling after your surgery, but this usually subsides within 1-2 weeks. Most swelling and bruising will resolve within 4-7 days, when you can usually return to work. To ease any discomfort, take the prescribed pain medication from Dr. Chou.

Avoid strenuous exercise and activities for at least 2-3 weeks. Ignoring this step can shift your implants, reopen incisions, and prolong healing. You’ll receive updates on when you can return to certain activities during each subsequent appointment after your operation.

Wear any recommended surgical dressings as directed, except when bathing or showering.

How Much Do Facial Implants Cost in Berkeley, CA?

The cost of facial implants in Berkeley depends on several factors, including the implants you choose, the implant material, whether you combine them with additional procedures, the surgeon’s experience, and anesthesia and facility fees. All of these factors combine to make a one-of-a-kind price for your facial implant procedure.
